Polish Citizenship
The Voivode recognizes a foreigner as a Polish citizen if they meet the following conditions:
1.A foreigner who has continuously resided in Poland for at least 3 years based on a permanent residence permit, long-term EU resident permit, or permanent residence right and who:
  • Has a stable and regular source of income;
  • Has a legal basis for occupying a residential property in Poland.
2.A foreigner who has continuously resided in Poland for at least 2 years based on a permanent residence permit, long-term EU resident permit, or permanent residence right and who:
  • Has been married for at least 3 years to a Polish citizen;
  • Does not hold any citizenship.
3.A foreigner who has continuously resided in Poland for at least 2 years based on a permanent residence permit granted due to refugee status in Poland.
4.A foreigner who has continuously and legally resided in Poland for at least 10 years and simultaneously:
  • Holds a permanent residence permit, long-term EU resident permit, or permanent residence right;
  • Has a stable and regular source of income;
  • Has a legal basis for occupying a residential property in Poland.
5.A foreigner who has continuously resided in Poland for at least 1 year based on a permanent residence permit granted due to Polish descent or holding a Pole's Card.
6.A minor foreigner residing in Poland under a permanent residence permit, long-term EU resident permit, or permanent residence right if:
  • One of the parents is a Polish citizen;
  • The other parent, who is not a Polish citizen, consents to this recognition.
7.A minor foreigner residing in Poland under a permanent residence permit, long-term EU resident permit, or permanent residence right if:
  • One of the parents has regained Polish citizenship;
  • The other parent, who is not a Polish citizen, consents to this recognition.
The President of the Republic of Poland may grant Polish citizenship (Prezydent Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej może nadać cudzoziemcowi obywatelstwo polskie) based on an application from a foreigner.
  • In the case of a minor foreigner, the application must be submitted by their legal representatives. If there is no agreement between the legal representatives of the minor foreigner, each of them may appeal to the court to resolve this issue.
